How Aadhar card came into existence?

In the year 2009, the government of India has established the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)with a mission to provide good, efficient and transparent governance to the citizen of India and started issuing the Aadhar card in order to achieve their goal. Many countries have been following this way for proof of identification. Now, with the establishment of UIDAI, India has also joined the long run. The process of working in UIDAI is that it collects all the biometric and demographic details of the all the applicants and store them in a centralized Unique Identification Number (UID) database. After fulfilment of all the requisite details, the UIDAI issues a 12 digit number to all the citizens of India commonly known as Aadhar Card. The enrollment form for Aadhar card can be downloaded online through the official website of UIDAI or by visiting nearest Aadhar card enrollment centres or banks or post offices etc. The aadhar Enrollment form once submitted will be send to the Aadhar card holders address as mentioned in the Aadhar Enrollment form. Eligibility for aadhar card

To have an Aadhar card, one has to fulfill below-mentioned criteria in order to be eligible for aadhar card.

  • One should be the resident of India
  • Children below 5 years of age are also eligible to apply for Baal aadhar
  • Non Residents of India (NRIs) and foreigners living in India for more than 12 months are also eligible to apply for aadhar card

Documents needed for Aadhar Card Enrollment & verification:

When applying for Aadhaar verification form, you need to submit some important documents with it. These are basically the proof of your identity, address, and date of birth.
  • Passport of the applicant.
  • PAN card.
  • Ration card or PDS Photo Card.
  • Voter Identification Card.
  • Driving license
  • NREGS Jobs Card.
  • Photo Bank ATM Card.
  • Voter identification card.
  • Certificate of birth of the applicant.

While applying for aadhar, you will have to carry two types of documents namely, Idemtity proof and address proof. Any two of the below-mentioned documents should meet the criteria.

Proof of Identity (PoI) For Aadhar Card

Generally, Proof of Identity requires the documents which have your photo. Some of the examples for PoI are as follows:

  • PAN card
  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • Voter ID card
  • Ration card
  • Arms license
  • Photo Identity Card issued by Educational Institution (recognized)
  • Kissan photo card
  • Disabled Identity Card/physically challenged medical certificate issued by the State or Union Territories Governments or Administrations respectively.
  • Certificate of identity having photo issued by the Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar on letterhead, etc

Proof of Address (PoA) For Aadhar Card

Proof of Address is generally the documents which have your address. Some of the examples for PoA are given below:

  • Ration card
  • Passport
  • Driving license
  • Water bill (shouldbewithin3months)
  • Electricity bill (shouldbewithin3months)
  • Statement of Credit card ( should be within 3 months)
  • Insurance policy
  • Bank statement or passbook
  • Certificate of address along with photo issued by any one among MP/MLA/Tehsildar/Gazetted Officer on the letterhead.

If you like you can get these forms at your local Aadhar center. With the completely filled up form, you have to enclose the required documents like address proof, birth date proof and the proof of residence.

Fields to be filled in the aadhar card enrollment form

As mentioned above the Aadhaar form consists of 11fileds that need to be filled with the signature of the applicant. Here we provide you the detailed information that has to be provided in the given fields:
  • TIN Number/ NPR Receipt:

You need to provide the National Population register survey slip or a tax identification number if you have it in this space. This is not a compulsory field to fill.

  • Full Name:

You need to write your full name that includes the first name, middle name and the surname or last name. This field must match the identity proof document that you are providing.

  • Gender:

You need to tick on one of the three columns provided, Male, Female or transgender.

  • Date of Birth or Age:

If in a case that you are not sure about the date of birth. You have to provide an approx age in years in the form. If you do know your date of birth fills up in a format of date-month-year in the space provided. You need to tick on the declared box in the fifth field in case you don’t have a proof for verification of your DOB. Check on the verified column if you do have the proof.

  • Address:

Fill out the address as it is mentioned in the proof of address document. Once the Aadhaar card is ready it is going to be delivered to this address. It has columns like house no, landmark, area, city, post office etc. In case your address is identified with a relation, fill in the name of the person in the first line. You can mention the son of S/O, Daughter of D/O, care of C/O as per requirement. Mobile number and email id have to be filled in as well. This is where all the information will be sent regarding the Aadhaar card.

  • Family member details:

This is not a compulsory field. You have the choice to provide the name and Aadhaar number of your family members. This filed is compulsory for children that are below the age of five years as details of parents and guardians need to be filled in.

  • Consent:

Here you are allowing or denying the UIDAI the right to share the information provided by you to the agencies involved in the development and welfare of the country. Select tick sign if you are giving consent and choose x sign if not. 

  • Bank account:

This is an optional field where you can choose to open an Aadhaar linked bank or post office account. You can also choose to link your present bank accounts with Aadhaar.

  • Documents provided:

In a column for the document based you have to mention the proof of identity, address, DOB document etc.

  • Introducer/ Head of family:

You can use the credentials of an introducer or the head of the family in case you don’t have a proof of identity or address for Aadhaar enrolment.

  • Signature:

This is the final field; just sign the document with the signature, name or thumbprint form validation.

After filling up your Aadhar form, go to the nearest Aadhar center and submit your filled up form with the relevant documents. The official will take your biometric data that includes a spot photo, fingerprint scan and add it to the database. 
After the process, you get an acknowledgment slip that has time and date of enrolment. Keep this slip safe as you will use the details provided to check your Aadhaar application status.

Password For Adhaar Card

The Aadhar card downloaded is a password protected file which requires a password everytime you open.To open the file enter the first four letters of your name along with your year of birth in capital letters.For example,if your name is ‘Shweta’ and your birth year is ‘1997’,then your password will be ‘SHWE1997’.

How to download Aadhar card by using Aadhar Number?

The easiest and common method of downloading e-Aadhaar online is by using the Aadhar Number itself. If you know your Aadhar Number, then you can follow the following steps to download and print out your e-Aadhaar card online.

Step1: Visit the official website of UIDAI i.e., https://eAadhar.uidai.gov.in/

Step2: Locate ‘Aadhaar Online Services’ then’ Aadhar enrollment’ and click ‘download Aadhar’.

Step3: A pop up will be seen on your screen clicking which will take you to another page.

Step4: You can now see a form on your screen asking your personal details for downloading e-Aadhar by Aadhaar Number or virtual ID or Enrollment Number.

Step5: Click on Aadhar.

Step6: Select ‘Masked Aadhar’ if you don’t want to show your full 12digit Aadhar Number.

Step7: Enter your Aadhar Number, full name as registered in the Aadhaar, pin code and the security code shown next in the box in the required fields.

Step8: Click on ‘Request OTP’ to get One Time Password (OTP) in your registered mobile number.

Step9: Enter the OTP and click ‘Download Aadhaar’.

Alternatively, you can also click on TOTP in order to validate your Aadhar card download request.

Step 10: Enter the password to open the file and take a print out for future use.

How to download Aadhar card by using Enrollment Number (EID)?

In case you have not received your Aadhar Number yet or you have your Aadhar card, you can download your e-Aadhaar online by using your Aadhar Enrollment Number (EID) which you get after the successful completion of the Aadhar enrollment process. Follow the prescribed steps given below to download your Aadhaar card.

Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI i.e., https://eAadhar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Locate ‘Aadhar Online Services ‘then’ Aadhar enrollment ‘and click ‘download Aadhar’.

Step 3:A popup will be seen on your screen clicking which will take you to another page.

Step 4: You can now see a form on your screen asking your personal details for downloading e-Aadhar by Aadhaar Number or virtual ID or Enrollment Number.

Step 5: Click on Enrollment Number.

Step 6: Select ‘Masked Aadhar ‘if you don’t want to show your full 12 digit Aadhar Number.

Step 7: Enter your 14 digit Enrollment Number, 14 digit Date-Time stamp printed on the Enrollment Slip, full name as registered in the Aadhaar, pincode and the security codes hown next in the box in the required fields.

Step 8: Click on’ Request OTP’ to get One Time Password (OTP)in your registered mobile number.

Step 9: Enter the OTP and click’ Download Aadhar’

Alternatively, you can also click on TOTP in order to validate your Aadhar card download request.

Step 10: Enter the password to open the file and take a print out for future use.

How to download Aadhar card by using Virtual ID?

In case you don’t have your Aadhar Number or Enrollment Number, you can still download your e-Aadha ronline with the help of your Virtual ID by simply following the below mentioned steps.

Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI i.e,https://eAadhar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 2: Locate ‘Aadhaar Online Services ‘then’ Aadhaar enrollment’ and click ‘download Aadhar’.

Step 3: A pop up will be seen on your screen clicking which will take you to another page.

Step 4: You can now see a form on your screen asking your personal details for downloading e-Aadhar by Aadhaar Number or virtual ID or Enrollment Number.

Step 5: Clickon Virtual ID

Step 6: Select ‘Masked Aadhar’ if you don’t want to show your full 12 digit Aadhar card Number.

Step 7: Enter your 16 digits Virtual ID Number (VID),fullname as registered in the Aadhar, pincode and the security code shown next in the box in the required fields.

Step 8: Click on’ Request OTP’ to get One Time Password (OTP)in your registered mobile number.

Step 9:Enter the OTP and click ‘Download Aadhaar’

Alternatively, you can also click on TOTP in order to validate your Aadhaar card download request.

Step 10: Enter the password to open the file and take a print out for future use.

How to download Aadhar card by using name and date of birth?

In case you lost your Aadhar Number or Enrollment Number and want it to retrieve. You can get your lost Aadhaar Number or Enrollment Number with your name and date of birth. Follow the below mentioned steps to download your Aadhar card using your name and date of birth:

Step 1: Visit the official website of UIDAI i.e., https://eaadhar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 2:Locate ‘Aadhar Online Services’  then’ Aadhar enrollment’ and click on’ Retrieve Lost UID/EID’.

Step 3: A pop up will be seen on your screen clicking which will take you to another page.

Step 4: Click on either Aadhaar Number or Enrollment Number whichever you want to retrieve

Step 5: Enter your full name as registered in the Aadhar, registered e-mail ID, registered mobile number and the image captcha.

Step 6: A One Time Password (OTP) will be received in your registered mobile number

Step 7: Enter the OTP and click on ‘Verify OTP’

Your Aadhar Number or Enrollment Number will be sent to your registered mobile number

Step 8: Visit the official website of UIDAI i.e., https://eaadhar.uidai.gov.in/

Step 9: Locate ‘Aadhaar Online Services ‘then’ Aadhar enrollment’ and click ‘download Aadhar’

How to Print the downloaded Aadhar Card?

Once you download your e-Aadhaar card in your system, you can take as many prim out as you want. Just enter the 8 digit password for your pdf file and take the print out.
